Baptism

Everyone is welcome at St. Paul’s, and we are so glad that your spiritual journey has led you to explore baptism for yourself or your child! Baptisms at St. Paul’s take place several times a year, with dates planned well in advance. Our next baptism is on Sunday November 21, 2021.

For parents, having your child baptised is signaling that you want them to grow up to be a follower of Jesus Christ and embrace all the love and mercy that God wants to give them. Baptism as an adult means the same thing—responding to God’s love and mercy and committing yourself to learning how to follow Jesus Christ.

If you think you may be interested in baptism at St. Paul’s, we invite you to join our Sunday morning worship for a few months to see whether this is the Christian community you would like to be part of.

We want to support and encourage you as you take this important step, whether in your own faith journey or as you seek to raise your child in the Christian faith. Because baptism is such a significant commitment, we have a preparation process to assist you along the way and to help you get a sense of our community.

There are three main steps in baptism preparation at St. Paul’s:

1) Have a conversation with the Rev. Tyler Wigg-Stevenson, Associate Priest. You can click the button below to set up an appointment with Tyler to discuss baptism and explore any questions you have.

2) Join in a preparation class with other baptismal candidates. Parents will participate in our 3-week Stepping Into Faith course, co-led by Tyler and Janet Earle, Children’s Minister. Adults are invited to take the Alpha course and meet one-on-one with Tyler as they prepare.

3) About a month before the baptism service, you and your child (for parents baptizing a child) will be introduced to the congregation as someone preparing for baptism—this allows the community to start praying for you!

If you’d like to get started, please click the button below and let us know a little bit about you, and Tyler will be in touch to begin the conversation.

Membership

Members are those who commit to making St. Paul’s Bloor Street their faith community for learning, worship, service, and generosity.

To become a member, you must have attended Sunday worship regularly at St. Paul’s for at least three months and want to make this commitment publicly at a membership service.

As a member of St. Paul’s Bloor Street, we ask you to commit to: being a disciple of Jesus, attending a worship service, joining a Connect Group, serving faithfully, giving generously, and spreading the Good News.

Download a Membership Form or contact Tyler Wigg-Stevenson.

Confirmation

Confirmation is where you reaffirm your Baptismal vows. For those who were baptized as a child, this is a chance to take ownership of the promises made by your caregivers on your behalf. A Bishop presides during a Confirmation service to join us in celebrating this commitment to God.

If you’re interested in confirmation as an adult, please contact Tyler Wigg-Stevenson.

If you’re interested in confirmation for your youth, please contact Ian Koiter.

Wedding

We’re delighted that you’re interested in making St. Paul’s a part of your wedding celebration! We aim to do everything possible to make sure your wedding is a wonderful and memorable occasion. As you begin your new life together, we also want to help you build the strongest possible marriage that’s given vision and strength through Jesus Christ.

Please read our Wedding Guide to help you decide if St. Paul’s is the church for you.

Please contact Tyler Wigg-Stevenson if you have any questions or are ready to take the next step.

Funeral

We can provide funeral assistance and comfort to you during the difficult period following the death of a loved one. You may choose between a traditional Anglican Book of Common Prayer funeral service, a more contemporary service, or a memorial service. All follow the basic Anglican Funeral liturgy, but you will be able to personalize it with readings, music and a time of thanksgiving.

Contact our office and a staff member will assist you with the funeral process.

Pre-planning a funeral years in advance or during the final weeks of life can help you communicate clearly with your family and loved ones about your funeral preferences.

Contact our office for more info.
