Advent 2021

It’s been a long year. Life is hard, relationships are tough, and climate change is real. Retail therapy and holiday drinks just aren’t going to cut it, and we need something else to bring hope as 2021 winds down. The days are getting darker, but the season of Advent promises us a coming Light.

Join us for the four Sundays of Advent, starting on November 28, as our preaching series Light at the End, gives us a reason to rejoice and celebrate this Christmas.

Advent Ask

Each year during Advent the St. Paul’s community joins together to have an impact around the world.

This year we are raising funds for a nursery school in northwestern Tanzania. The Nyakanazi Nursery School cares for over a hundred children and needs to expand. Many of these children are orphans or come from very poor homes. Our goal is to help build a new wing for the nursery school so they can accept more students and to provide porridge for breakfast for all the students for a year. We are hoping to raise $30,000 to enable us to build the new classroom and give these children at least one meal a day.

The Nyakanazi Nursery School is operated by the Anglican Diocese of Biharamulo. This is a new Diocese that was founded four years ago, with Bishop Vithalis Yusuph as its pioneering bishop. On the border with Rwanda and Uganda, the Diocese is rapidly expanding, planting new churches every year, despite the extreme poverty and lack of material resources. Our Rector, Bishop Andison, and her family visited the Diocese two years ago and visited the Nursery School and saw first hand how the school is meeting a tangible need in the lives of impoverished children.

If you would like to make a financial contribution for our Advent Ask, then you can donate here, and select “Advent Ask” under the Fund section.

Reverse Advent Calendar

During the season of Advent we take the opportunity to turn our attention towards others while moving away from consumerism. The Reverse Advent Calendar is a wonderful opportunity to practice this individually or with others. This year we are partnering with Yonge Street Mission, who work with the marginalized in our community.

How it works
Pick up a red bag and calendar from us on Sunday November 21. Each day on the calendar is filled with an item to put in the bag, and by the end of the month you’ll have collected multiple items that will be donated to Yonge Street Mission. Bring back your bag on December 19, so we can pray a blessing over the items and those who will receive them.
