Apprentices of the King
Small Group Questions - February 12, 2012
1) When have you felt closest to someone in your life? What makes you feel overwhelmed? Read Mark 3:7-12 . Where do you spot chaos beginning to ferment in this section? How is Jesus behaving in the midst of the chaos? What does this tell us about him?
2) Read Mark 3:13-19 . In verses 14 -15 what are the three reasons given for Jesus calling the 12? What does this tell you about the priorities of Jesus?
3) Do you know anything else from the Biblical record about the 12 that are chosen? Are there similar qualities that Jesus is looking for in whom he chooses?
4) In light of the growing crowds, why does Jesus appoint these 12 as apostles – what is his purpose in doing that? Does God need our help in the world? Why or why not? If God came to earth in human flesh (the incarnation) to fulfill his will for humanity, what is God saying about how he wishes to use humans today?
5) If we are called by God with the purpose of then being sent by God, what enables us to be both humble and secure at the same time in that calling? Who in your home life, your work life and your friendship networks are you being sent to by God?
