Nigerian Cultural Celebration:

On Saturday, December 4th, 2004 from 5:00-9:00 p.m., Archbishop Josiah Idowu-Fearon of the Kaduna Archdiocese, Nigeria will be the special guest at a fundraising evening at Wycliffe College, U of T. This event is in support of the Jacaranda Farm Project and is hosted by St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Bloor Street. Tickets for the Cultural Celebration cost $25 and must be obtained in advance from 416-961-8116, or kaduna@stpaulsbloor.org.

Archbishop Idowu-Fearon is well known on the international stage as a member of the Lambeth Commission on Anglican unity, which delivered the influential Windsor Report in October, 2004.   He is also a noted expert on Muslim-Christian relations, founder of the Centre for the Study of Christianity and Islam in Kaduna, and a key leader of Nigeria’s approximately 17 million Anglicans.

In 2003 the Archdiocese of Kaduna purchased Jacaranda Farm, located in northern Kaduna state. The vision for this farm is to create a self-sustaining economic platform for the local population, regardless of religion or tribe; particularly targeting women and youth.

The Archbishop is partnering with his brothers and sisters throughout the world to raise funds for this ambitious project. In Toronto, the Archbishop has challenged St.Paul’s Bloor Street in its capacity as Commissary of the Kaduna Archdiocese in Canada to raise CAD$400,000 towards developing the Jacaranda Farm vision.

The Archbishop will be appearing on the Rhythms of Africa radio program (AM770) on Saturday, December 4th from 3-4pm, bringing greetings to the Nigerian community in the GTA. He will preach at St.Paul’s Bloor Street at 8:15, 9:15 and 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, December 5th.
