From the moment we are born, life is full of firsts. Our first breath, our first steps, our first day of school, our first kiss, our first job. These firsts can be exciting, or suspenseful, or terrifying – or all three! But life’s “firsts” are always transformative, causing us to grow. When we do something for the first time, it changes us, it opens new horizons, it creates new possibilities.
When God sent the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, He was doing something brand new. He was creating the very FIRST church. Like any newborn, what followed were a series of firsts for that infant church: the FIRST day, the FIRST sermon, the FIRST gathering, the FIRST miracle. It was exciting and it was terrifying! God was opening new horizons, and creating new possibilities.
These days it is easy to retreat to places of safety and comfort in our faith, but that is not the life God calls us to. God is still calling His people, His church, to take those risky, first steps of faith even though it may feel frightening. Has it been a while since the Spirit moved you into a new future? Where might God be calling you to step out in faith for the FIRST time? Let’s make this season of Pentecost a season of FIRSTS for us all!
If you've never invited someone to church before, we encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and consider inviting someone to join you for this series.
Join us on Sundays at 8:15 am, 9:30 am and 11 am.
